Uganda’s Electoral Commission Sets Timeline for Presidential Election Results

The Electoral Commission is gearing up for Uganda’s upcoming presidential election on January 15, 2026. Chairperson Simon Byabakama announced that the winner of the presidential election will be declared within 48 hours after polling ends.

Here’s the breakdown of the results announcement process:

  • Results will be announced at district tally centres
  • Results will be transmitted to the national tally centre in Lubowa, Wakiso District
  • The commission will tally results from all districts and cities at the national centre
  • Final presidential outcome will be announced within two days of the close of polls

Ugandans will head to the polls on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to elect their President and Members of Parliament. To facilitate voting, President Yoweri Museveni has declared January 15 and January 16, 2026, public holidays.
