Uganda Cubs Arrive Home: Heroes Welcome at Entebbe Airport

The Uganda Cubs, the country’s U17 national football team, have touched down at Entebbe Airport, returning home after making history at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar. The team, led by Coach Brian Ssenyondo, received a heroes’ welcome from fans, officials, and dignitaries.

The Cubs’ remarkable journey in Qatar saw them become the first Ugandan team to qualify for the Round of 16 at a FIFA World Cup tournament. Their impressive performance included a stunning 1-0 win over France, a 1-1 draw with Chile, and a 1-0 defeat of Senegal in the Round of 32

Although their campaign ended with a 5-3 penalty shootout loss to Burkina Faso, the team’s achievement has brought pride to the nation and inspired a new generation of young footballers

A Hero’s Welcome

As the team arrived at Entebbe Airport, fans clad in Cubs jerseys and waving flags cheered and chanted their names. Officials from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and government representatives were on hand to receive the team.

FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo praised the team for representing Uganda with pride and distinction. “Congratulations boys, you represented yourselves and your country very well on the biggest stage of football. You made your country happy, believe, and most importantly very proud,” he said.

The Cubs’ achievement has sparked excitement and hope across Uganda, with many calling for increased investment in youth football development. Coach Ssenyondo’s team has shown that with hard work, dedication, and teamwork, Ugandan football can compete with the best in the world
